DENVER – Two law enforcement officers were injured after they were hit by passing vehicles Friday afternoon.
A Denver Police Department conducting speed enforcement was involved in a crash with a vehicle at Speer Boulevard and Chopper Circle in Denver at around 2:50 p.m.
The officer was taken to a hospital with “what appears to be non-life threatening injuries,” according to a DPD official.
Speer Boulevard was closed from Chopper Circle to 8th Avenue and also from Interstate 25 to Chopper Circle/Wewatta Street following the crash, authorities said. Drivers are asked to avoid the area.
The injured police officer has been with the force since 1998, according to Denver Police Sgt. Chad Kuroda.
The Colorado State Patrol – Golden division reported a second crash at around 3 p.m.
A Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputy was hit while responding to a five-vehicle crash in the area of Highway 93 and 58th Avenue when a suspect vehicle T-boned the deputy’s patrol car, according to an official with CSP Golden.
Highway 93 was closed for about an hour but the roads have since been reopened, a CDOT official said on Twitter.
“Our deputy is being transported to the hospital with injuries but thankfully he’s expected to be OK,” a Jeffco deputy said on Twitter.
