The search was going on in the area of Lowell Boulevard between Colfax and 17th. That's just a couple blocks from Sloans Lake and Cheltenham Elementary School.
Cheltenham, Colfax Elementary School and Lake International Middle School were placed on lockout. The lockout was lifted at 11:15 a.m.
Police said the woman was allegedly involved in a some sort of disturbance, but they didn't release any other information.
Investigators said one woman was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
A neighbor, who didn't want to show his face, told Denver7 disturbing details about what led up to the search.
He said the female suspect's father barged into his home early Wednesday morning.
"At first just kind of took me by surprise, showing up at the door like that," said the man who asked to be called Vince. "He just said, 'call the cops, my daughter's trying to kill me' and he ran into the kitchen, ran into the bedrooms."
Vince also said the man told him his daughter had held his girlfriend hostage and was torturing her all night.
He said the other woman was able to escape, and got help from another neighbor.
"I asked if she looked all beat up, and she said no - she just had marks all over her," said Vince.
