DENVER – Denver Police Department officers are hoping to fight crime with a simple idea – and also build community relations with neighbors along the way.
DPD officers went door to door between Colfax and 17th Avenues to give out energy-efficient light bulbs to residents in the Swallow Hill neighborhood Wednesday evening.
The idea is to illuminate the area to keep the bad guys from committing crimes.
But that’s not the only purpose of the program.
Police also hope to build better community relations in order “to build deeper connections with residents.”
“Following a similar distribution and community outreach event in a Northwest Denver neighborhood, DPD and residents saw a reduction in vehicle-related crimes,” said a DPD officer in a press release.
