A Denver pastor ran 100 miles in 10 days in hopes of raising $100,000 to help the homeless. His efforts culminate on Saturday with a 5K for Open Door Ministries.
"A lot of people [are] like, 'you're doing what, isn't that crazy?' It was probably a little crazy," said Pastor David Warren, executive director of Open Door Ministries.
It may sound crazy but it's for a good cause. Funds raised will go to serve the homeless through Open Door Ministries. Pastor Warren said the need is growing because they're seeing more homeless people.
"We had a family that was living down by the Platte River -- a single mom with 5 kids," Warren said.
The ministry was able to help get that family into emergency housing.
As Pastor Warren covered all those miles, he thought about the people he was running for.
"They don't have a lot of options and that's kind of how I felt that day as I was running -- I don't have a lot of options, I've got to run to this next church through the rain," he said.
The Run for the Door 5K is happening Saturday, May 28 at Cheeseman Park. Registration begins at 7:00 a.m. and the race gets underway at 8:30 a.m. Participants can register in-person or online.
