The family of an officer shot in the line of duty is asking the public to donate blood in his honor.
Denver Police officer Tony Lopez, Jr., was conducting a routine traffic stop on Federal Boulevard near 38th Avenue on Tuesday when he was shot by a suspect, leaving the officer for dead on the street.
It was thanks to quick-thinking paramedics that Officer Lopez, Jr., was able to survive. A fellow officer also helped by placing a tourniquet on Lopez, Jr., in order to stop him from bleeding out.
