Suspect sought in I-25, I-225 hit-and-run crash

One person was seriously injured after being ejected early New Year's Day during a two-vehicle hit-and-run crash on an interstate on-ramp.

The crash happened at around 4:15 a.m. Friday when a vehicle cut over and collided with the other vehicle that was heading north on I-25 trying to merge onto I-225, according to a Denver Police Department spokesperson. 

Four people were inside the vehicle that triggered the crash, according to police. The person who was ejected remains in critical condition. Another was taken to a hospital, the DPD tweeted Saturday. That person's condition is unknown at this time.

Denver Police were not immediately able to confirm the make and model of the vehicles, nor were they able to confirm the identity of the victim.

"We have some things to work with but obviously we’re looking for information," said Denver Police Department technician Tyrone Campbell.

The hit-and-run suspect ran from the scene of the crash and has not been found. Police say paramedics on the scene initially made contact with the person who later took off. They also could not say if the suspect was in the car alone or with others.

"The primary concern in regard to the hit-and-run is locating the owner of the vehicle and obviously the driver of the vehicle, but any party that may have information is urged to come forward because every little piece could help us," said Campbell.

Residents in the nearby Pearl Apartments complex heard the commotion just hours into the new year.

"Yeah, this morning they [sic] were a lot of sirens going by," said Luke Blackburn, who lives in the complex.

Investigators have not ruled out the possibility that alcohol may have played a role in the crash.

The ramp from northbound Interstate 25 to northbound Interstate 225 was closed for several hours as police investigated the crash.
