DENVER – A badly emaciated Boxer surrendered to a local rescue organization is recovering, but it’s unclear if the owner will face any charges for neglect.
The Boxer, now named Spartan, was surrendered to Ho-Bo Care rescue in Denver this week.
A volunteer at the organization told Denver7 the dog’s owner had been in touch with Ho-Bo Care last week and told volunteers the dog was sick and that they couldn't afford the animal's medical expenses.
The owner also reportedly told volunteers the dog had been profusely vomiting and had been sick for two weeks.
When volunteers saw the malnourished dog they immediately took him. In an email to Denver7, one volunteer said they got him fluids and began force-feeding him, saying the dog was “barely hanging on.”

Spartan will get an ultrasound so rescue volunteers can figure out what is going on with him. In the mean time, a veterinarian at Hermosa Veterinary Clinic said Spartan should be OK, adding that it will take time to get him consistently eating again.
