Colorado clergy hold vigil, honor pope's message

Posted

Clergy and members of congregations from across the state honored the visit of Pope Francis to the United States on Saturday by recognizing people at the edges of society, listening to their stories and washing their feet in front of an immigration and detention center.

The ceremony was held at the GEO Immigration Detention Center in Denver, where the evangelical coalition Together Colorado says many people in need are incarcerated.  The ceremony included immigrants, low wage workers and people who have spent time in jail.

Organizer Sharon Bridgeforth says Pope Francis called on world leaders during his visit to the United States and United Nations to recognize the dignity of all people, including people at the edges of society who don't get the help and attention they need and deserve.
