It’s a rite of passage for any teen, but not all of them get to go to their high school prom as they're faced with dealing with serious health issues.
Fortunately for patients at Children's Hospital Colorado, their prom night is something they will not soon forget.
This year’s prom was Bronco’s themed and took place at Mile High Stadium.
“I did go to prom last year, but it was right when I got sick so it wasn’t a really good experience,” said Grace Jackson, a patient at Children's. She is fighting multiple autoimmune diseases.
It’s something she will always deal with, but on Friday night, she was more focused on sequence and heels.
“I’m finally able to fit into this dress because I was way small back then,” said Jackson.
Her other focus was one of the celebrity dates -- Denver Broncos player Mark Sanchez.
In a moment of prom night spontaneity, Jackson even had Sanchez sign her head.
“It helps lighten the mood for people and it helps them stay comfortable around me, so it’s just one of those things that popped into my head. I just decided to do it,” said Jackson.
Sanchez was impressed by the spirit of the prom goers.
“It’s so cool to see them realize a dream in high school. This is a big deal,” said Sanchez.
Organizers say the prom creates a safe zone where the teens understand each other, and is a bright light in a very tough time.
