DENVER -- Local agency department calendars usually feature well-toned, shirtless men each year wearing the uniform they use to serve and protect the community, but that is not the case for the Denver Police Department's first official calendar.
Created by the officers’ wives, the calendar features DPD officers outside of the job – as husbands, as wives and as parents.
Sgt. Tony Lopez Jr., injured during a traffic stop in Dec. of 2015, is on the cover of the calendar and begins the 2017 year.
The calendars cost $20 a piece and the money raised will benefit the Denver Police Foundation, a nonprofit organization which uses the funds for a variety of purposes like crime prevention, training and education.
