Former Swedish Hospital patient comes forward

Another Swedish Hospital patient is coming forward, saying she was helped by former surgical tech Rocky Allen during the time he worked at the hospital.

“He took me into the surgery room and said that he was going to be the tech to help the surgeon, and he did, he laid me down, said I had to lay on my stomach and prepped me for surgery,” said Margaret Wegrzyn. “He told me, 'okay, are you ready? We’re going to start surgery.'”

Wegrzyn is concerned that the HIV and Hepatitis B and C testing that Swedish doctors are currently testing for isn’t enough.

Swedish Hospital told Denver7 the amount of times a patient was tested directly related to what time period they were seen at Swedish while Allen worked at the hospital.

Wegrzyn said she tested negative for all three, but her primary care doctor is continuing to test her every month for six months.

Now, she’s hoping hospitals background check their employees, so this doesn’t happen again.

“Why didn’t they do a background check? why didn’t they--why did they let someone touch us that has a drug problem?” asked Wegrzyn. “I hope he gets more time, I hope he gets life because he almost gave us life, he tried to kill us.”
