DENVER -- A $5 million construction project is getting underway on Colfax Avenue and it could impact how you get around this summer.
The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is resurfacing a 3.5-mile stretch of Colfax from Colorado Boulevard to Speer Boulevard. In addition to the road work, sidewalks will be improved and 96 curb ramps will be reconstructed.
"Colfax Avenue is a major road people use to get into the heart of Denver," said Paul Jesaitis, Region 1 Transportation Director for CDOT. "That’s why this project is important to us to improve the safety of both motorists and pedestrians."
Construction signs are already in place and work is expected to begin next week. In order to minimize the impact, normal working hours will be from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday for sidewalks and curb ramps from April through June. The resurfacing will begin in June once sidewalk work is complete; it is expected to last through September. Working hours for resurfacing phase will be from 8:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Sunday through Thursday.
The project is expected to be completed in the fall of 2017. CDOT will provide ongoing updates online.
