DENVER – St. Patrick’s Day doesn’t come for a few days, but thousands showed up to the annual parade in downtown Denver on Saturday morning.

More than 10,000 marchers and 200 entrants made their way from 19th and Wynkoop to 27th and Blake Streets.

Parade goers saw pipe bands, floats and leprechauns along the route. Blake Street was temporarily renamed Tooley St. for the weekend.

Denver7 crews met the Green family who woke up at 5 a.m. to prepare for the parade. The Green’s arrived ahead of the parade’s 9:30 a.m. start time to get a seat on the front lines.

“We’ve been getting ready for days -- going to Party City, here and there, getting our outfits together,” said mother of five Jaquaya Green.

The Green’s, dressed in green, joined thousands of parade goers who threw on extra layers of clothing because of early morning showers and gray skies.

“We’re here rain, sleet or snow,” Green said.

Unfortunately, conditions didn’t bring out any rainbows.

Like many, the Lujan family said they’ve made the parade a yearly tradition.

“Being able to see just the love and support, and the effort that are [sic] put into here and enjoy it while we can,” said Anthony Lujan.

The Denver St. Patrick's Day Parade has been touted as the largest Irish cultural celebration west of the Mississippi.
