UPDATE | July 28 at 3:30 p.m. — In an update nearly a week after announcing that possible human remains were found in a dumpster, the Commerce City Police Department confirmed the remains were indeed human.

"Detectives have determined that they were thrown into the dumpsters at the flea market by individuals not associated with the business (we are in contact with those individuals)," the police department wrote on social media.

The remains were brought to the coroner's office. They have not been identified yet. No other updates were available.

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. — Possible human remains were found in a Commerce City dumpster on Wednesday, the police department said.

The Commerce City Police Department posted online at 1:14 p.m. that its detectives were investigating "what appears to be human remains" in a dumpster along the 7000 block of 88th Avenue.

The police department did not release any other information.
