DENVER – The Colorado State Patrol is urging drivers to move over for emergency responders on the anniversary of CSP Trooper Cody Donahue’s death.
Donahue was hit and killed by a truck driver who didn’t move over while he investigated a crash on I-25 in Castle Rock the day after Thanksgiving in 2016.
“Today, we commemorate the loss of beloved Trooper Cody Donahue… can’t believe its (sic) been a year,” a tweet from the CSP Castle Rock division stated.

On Friday, the Colorado State Patrol uploaded a video to Facebook from the memorial site along I-25 where Donahue was killed, to remind drivers to move over one lane if they spot an emergency vehicle on the road.
On Jun. 1, Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper signed into law the Move Over for Cody Act, which, if broken, could mean up to 18 months in jail and a fine of up to $5,000, for drivers who don’t move over for emergency responders along the highway.
