BRIGHTON, Colo -- A woman hit and killed on Interstate 76 was identified by the Adams County Coroner early Saturday.

Cindy Augustian, 51, of Aurora, was struck near 136th Avenue between 5 a.m. and 6:20 a.m Friday.

The Adams County Corner was investigating how she died, but police believe she was struck by a vehicle while walking along the roadway.

Between 4:26 a.m. and 4:54 a.m. police received two calls of a woman walking along the Interstate, but officers were unable to locate her, according to John Bradley, a Brighton Police Department spokesperson.

At 6:20 a.m. a passing driver called police about a person lying on the shoulder of the road.

Officers also found a crashed SUV in a culvert about a half-mile from where Augustian's body was found.

"It appears her vehicle may have gone off the road, gone through the sign," Bradley said.

Police believe that after the crash, Augustian got out and began walking along the Interstate. They believe she was then struck by a car that did not remain at the scene.

Police were asking anyone with information about the crash to call their tip-line at (303) 655-8740.
