BRIGHTON, Colo. -- Police are investigating the death of a woman on Interstate 76.
The woman's body was found near 136th Avenue and Barr Lake State Park Friday morning.
Brighton police believe the woman was driving a SUV on eastbound I-76 when she was involved in a crash. Her SUV was found in a culvert next to the highway.
Investigators believe the woman, who was approximately 50 years old, got out of her SUV and was walking westbound on I-76 when she was hit and killed.
Police said they got two calls about a woman walking on the interstate between 4:26 a.m. and 4:54 a.m., but they were unable to find her. The victim's body was found at about 6:20 a.m.
The victim's name has not yet been released.
Officers are investigating the death as a possible hit-and-run, John Bradley with the Brighton Police Department told Denver7. Police are asking that anyone with information about the crash call the tip-line at (303) 655-8740.
