DENVER -- Former Colorado governor Bill Owens is weighing in on the JonBenet Ramsey murder investigation.

Owens was governor of Colorado from 1999 to 2007. While he was not governor when Ramsey was killed, in 1996, the investigation continued while he was in office.

"For a number of reasons having to do with my then-responsibilities as Governor of Colorado I closely followed and was even to some extent involved in the aftermath of the tragic JonBenet Ramsey murder case," Owens wrote on Facebook. "I have over the years talked to many of those who were part of the investigation and, based on those discussions, have my own strong views concerning who killed JonBenet."

While Owens didn't say who he felt killed JonBenet, he commended "CBS for its excellent research, investigation and reporting in 'The Case of: JonBenet Ramsey.'"

Owens specifically mentioned some quotes from the show including:

  • "You can eliminate the 'outside intruder hypothesis'" as to who killed JonBenet.
  • "What we have here is a staged crime scene"....Most likely John and Patsy Ramsey staged this to look like a monster predator killed their daughter."

The CBS team members revealed they believe Burke Ramsey, who was 9 years old at the time, killed his sister. A renowned forensic pathologist who was on the show, said he agrees.

“If you really, really use your free time to think about this case, you cannot come to a different conclusion,” Dr. Werner Spitz said. “It's the boy who did it.”

Burke told Dr. Phil he knows people think he did it.

“I know people think I did it; that my parents did it," Burke told Dr. Phil in his Burke's first television interview. "I know that we were suspects."

Burke, and his parents, were cleared by the Boulder District Attorney's Office in JonBenet's death in 2008.

Then-District Attorney Mary Lacy released a statement that said DNA discovered in the case had a "genetic profile belongs to a male and does not belong to anyone in the Ramsey family."

"The Boulder District Attorney's Office does not consider any member of the Ramsey family, including John, Patsy, or Burke Ramsey, as suspects in this case," Lacy wrote.

However, Owens may disagree.

He finished his Facebook post with, "Again, CBS is to be commended for stripping away the many myths surrounding this horrible case and presenting factually and unemotionally an unbiased account of this tragedy."

JonBenet Ramsey was 6 years old when her body was found in her parent's home on December 26, 1996. Her parents called police after finding a ransom note and their daughter missing. Her body was found in the home's basement.

Over the last month, there have been several documentaries and reports on the Ramsey murder investigation. Check out 7 new things we've learned about the case.
