A jogger was sexually assaulted along the Boulder Creek bike path late Friday night, Boulder police said.

The jogger was out for a run between 10 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. near the area of Walnut Hills and Foothills Parkway, when the suspect grabbed her from behind and threatened her with a knife before sexually assaulting her, according to Shannon Cordingly, a spokesperson for the Boulder Police Department.

In a statement Saturday, police said they are searching for a suspect and have increased patrols in the area.

He is being described as a white man in his mid-20s, between 5-feet, 10-inches tall to approximately 6-feet tall with a medium build and facial hair that described as being a "medium" shade.

At the time of the assault, the suspect was wearing a white hooded sweatshirt and dark pants. The victim told investigators that the suspect was dirty, unkempt and had a strong foul odor which led her to believe he was a transient.

Anyone who may have additional information on this case should call Detective Sarah Cantu at 303-441-4328. Those who have information but wish to remain anonymous may contact the Northern Colorado Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
