Defense attorneys for two men charged with murder in the death of a Colorado man whose body was found along a Wyoming highway last year blame a third man for the death, saying a third man is responsible for the killing.
The Daily Camera reports that attorneys made opening arguments Tuesday in the trial of 38-year-old Daniel Ortiz and 26-year-old Moises Mendez. The two are charged with felony first-degree murder, robbery and aggravated motor-vehicle theft in the death of 25-year-old Nathaniel Tallman of Lafayette.
Prosecutors say Tallman was heading to a drug deal when he was fatally shot, but they haven't revealed who pulled the trigger.
Russell Britton pleaded guilty for being an accessory to the crime and will testify for the prosecution. Defense attorneys say he is responsible for Tallman's death.
