BOULDER, Colo. – A cyclist who was hit and killed by a semitrailer near the Village Shopping Center Wednesday evening has been identified by the Boulder County Coroner.

Dum Gurung, 65, of Boulder was reportedly riding against traffic at the time of the crash, according to eye witnesses who spoke to our partners at the Boulder Daily Camera.

The semi driver “didn't automatically know" he or she had struck the cyclist and had to be flagged down by officers,” officers told the Daily Camera.

The crash happened in the area of 28th Street and Arapahoe Avenue at around 6 p.m.

"The semi actually continued driving, and officers caught up with it," police spokeswoman Shannon Cordingly told the Camera, adding that the driver was cooperating with police after he was flagged down.

The Camera reports this is the fifth bicyclist death in Boulder County since late May.

An autopsy will be completed and the cause and manner of death are pending further investigation.
