BOULDER, Colo. -- Preliminary figures from the University of Colorado show the school's Boulder campus has set a new record for freshman enrollment.

The number of freshman on the campus this fall is 6,435, an increase of 3.7 percent from the same time last year, the Daily Camera reports. The numbers, which also revealed increases in overall enrollment at each of the school's four campuses, were praised by CU's board of regents during a Thursday briefing.

The Boulder campus saw a 2.9 percent growth in overall enrollment from fall 2015. The total number of students grew by 6.8 percent on the Colorado Springs campus, 2.7 percent on the Denver campus and 1.4 percent at the Anschutz Medical Campus.

School officials will release more information when enrollment numbers are finalized later this semester.
