BOULDER, Colo. -- A pregnant woman in Colorado whose plan was to give birth on Election Day rushed to the polling station to vote before heading to the hospital when she unexpectedly went into labor over the weekend.
Sosha Adelstein was due to have her first child on Election Day, but the baby couldn't wait and she began going into labor at about 1:30 a.m. on Friday, remaining consistent throughout the early morning, our partners at the Boulder Daily Camera report.
But before delivering the baby, Adelstein and her partner, Max Brandel, knew they had to do something important -- and so they stopped at the Boulder County Clerk and Recorder's Office to drop off their ballots later that morning.
"They came in to drop off their ballots and sign the ballot envelopes," Boulder County spokeswoman Mircalla Wozniak confirmed with the Daily Camera. "The election judge could tell she was in labor."
The couple can be seen standing in front of a makeshift "I Voted" photo station before leaving for the hospital.
"We always encourage voting by any means and certainly encourage your ballot in as soon as possible," Wozniak told the Daily Camera. "This is a great reason to vote early if you are in labor."
"It's really important for us to bring our girl into a world we are proud of," said Brandel. "We hope people realize the risks inherent in this election and get out and vote."
