Some CU students skip exam with caucus selfie

Chemistry students at CU Boulder can skip their Tuesday night exams to attend the Colorado caucuses -- but first, they must take a selfie.

There are hundreds of students who want to attend the caucuses, according to school officials. However, both happen Tuesday night, the same night as some students' exams.

"I wrote a resolution to strongly encourage all activities on campus be excused after 5:00 p.m. for caucusing," said Lucas Larson, student government representative at-large. "I know people personally who are taking an exam."

CU Boulder provost, Russell D. Moore, along with the Boulder Student Government, decided to officially excuse students who were planning to go to a caucus, but couldn't because of a midterm. But there are some conditions:

• Students have to had already planned to go to a caucus, and be preregistered as a democrat or republican to get out of their exams.

Even though those students are escaping their midterm responsibilities, their final exams will weigh twice as much on their grades. 

One more thing, in order to be exempt, each student has to bring their professor a picture they took of themselves -- more commonly known as a "selfie" -- at the caucus.
