The Boulder Reservoir swim area was closed Wednesday due to elevated bacteria levels in the water and officials had hoped to open up the area on Thursday.
The swim area reopened Friday for Ironman athletes, but it was closed to the general public, a Boulder Parks and Recreation official tweeted.
The increased levels of bacteria were believed to be the result of rain runoff.
