AURORA, Colo. -- A pedestrian was hit and killed when an SUV driver lost control and slid into a group of people in a crosswalk, police said.
It happened at 12:10 a.m. Monday at East Iliff Avenue and South Chambers Road.
Police said a 1998 Toyota 4Runner was speeding on Iliff when the driver tried to turn on Chambers. Officers said the driver lost control and started to slide.
"A group of pedestrians was walking northbound in the east crosswalk," Aurora police said. "One of the pedestrians was struck as the 4Runner slid eastbound through the crosswalk."
The 4Runner went up onto the sidewalk and rolled over. Police said the SUV landed on its wheels and the driver tried to leave, but the SUV's engine died. The driver and a passenger in the 4Runner were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
The pedestrian was taken to the hospital, but did not survive.
Police did not say if the driver would be charged.
