AURORA, Colo. -- Aurora’s Chief of Police Nick Metz wants to loosen up tensions between the community and police by creating a guide for the city's youth.

In collaboration with a few students in Aurora, the Aurora  Police Department created what they call the Empowering Guide.

The guide is aimed at helping students understand the do's and don'ts when interacting with police.

“We want to make sure kids are armed with as much knowledge as possible and know what their rights are and how to make sure that a situation they are in doesn’t erupt into something where they end up going to jail,” said Aurora Chief of Police Nick Metz.

The booklet will be handed out by school resources officers at schools throughout the Arapahoe County School District.
