A child and a woman were taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries following a 3-vehicle crash that injured as many as 12 people in southeast Aurora Sunday afternoon, according to Aurora Police.

The child and the woman in her mid-20s were listed in critical condition, according to a traffic division official Denver7 spoke with.

Denver7 has learned the following regarding the vehicles involved in the crash:

  • 1 adult and 4 children (one of them who is listed in critical condition) were inside a Honda at the time of the crash. Officials said the kids were not wearing any seat belts when the cars collided.
  • 4 people were inside a Saturn vehicle (the woman in her mid-20's was ejected from the vehicle and is listed in critical condition). She also wasn't wearing a seatbelt, according to officials.
  • 3 people, including a woman who a relative said was nine months pregnant, were inside a Toyota. The relative said two children were in the car at the time, ages 4 and 6.

Police are currently working to investigate if anyone ran any red lights. Denver7 reporter Brendaliss Gonzalez said officers confirmed the Saturn was making a left-hand turn at Hampden and the Honda was headed eastbound when the crash occurred. She added officers are still looking for witnesses who may be able to speak to them about the nature of the crash.

The intersection of East Hampden Avenue and South Buckley Road was closed at around 2:28 p.m. The roads were back open at 6:06 p.m.
