AURORA, Colo. – A bicyclist was killed following a crash in Aurora Thursday evening, according to police.

The crash happened at East Hampden Avenue and South Kalispell Street at around 9:12 p.m., police said, when a black Ford Mustang traveling west on East Hampden Avenue crashed with a man riding a bicycle as he was riding north on South Kalispell Street.

Investigators do not know who had the right-of-way at the time of the crash, according to a news release, but said the bicyclist was struck while in the crosswalk area. The driver stayed at the scene, police said.

Speed or alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the crash, but Traffic Unit investigators will try to reconstruct the scene of the crash to determine speeds and other contributing factors, according to police.

The identity of the bicyclist will be released by the Arapahoe county Coroner’s Office once his family has been notified.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash, has dash cam footage or who may have information about this crash to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at (720) 913-7867 or reach out to the Aurora Police Department Traffic Unit.
