It was a special day for 58 underprivileged kids from Aurora this Saturday.
About 70 Aurora Police officers took them to Wal-Mart for some fun, holiday shopping. Each child was given a $200 gift certificate to shop for whatever they wanted. The money was raised through donations from local corporations.
The kids were selected by officers who come in contact with families on the street and through the Key Community Response Team, an organization that meets monthly with the city.
The chiefs of police, city council and the deputy city manager also went along with the cops and the kids to witness all of the excitement.
"This was an excellent opportunity," said Judy Lutkin with the Aurora Police Department. "We simply want to make sure that kids in our community have warm clothes and boots this winter and have a Christmas present under the tree."
