AURORA, Colo. -- A child was hit crossing the street on his way to school in Aurora Wednesday morning.
It happened on East Mississippi Avenue at South Uvalda Street, just before 9 a.m.
Aurora Police said two boys, who are both 11-years-old, were half-way across Mississippi, in the crosswalk, when the signal began to change.
"Both boys began running to try and make it across," an officer with the Aurora Police Department said.
Vehicles in two of the westbound lanes remained stopped and let the boys pass, but the driver in the third lane did not see the boys and hit one of them, investigators said.
That boy is in critical condition. Police said the child has serious, life-threatening injuries.
Police said the driver, a 21-year-old woman, had a green light.
The boys attend Aurora Hills Middle School.
