Drug abuse clinic goes up in flames in Arvada

For more than five hours, firefighters battled flames and heavy smoke at a substance abuse clinic in Arvada.

The Arvada Fire District tweeted Saturday morning the fire started at the Creative Treatment Options behavioral health care clinic in the area of West 64th Ave. and Olde Wadsworth Blvd at around 10 a.m.

Fire crews went on a defensive attack, meaning they attacked the flames from the outside instead of making entry into the structure.

One person had a minor injury and was taken to a hospital for treatment. Officials say they still have no idea as to what caused the fire, but the age of the building might have contributed to the hours-long blaze.

"Unfortunately, it is not one of our structures that has fire sprinklers. So we didn't have any sort of advantage with having a system like that in place," said Arvada Fire Protection District Deputy Fire Marshall Deanna Harrington.

No road closures or evacuations were put in place due to the blaze and no other buildings suffered any damage from this fire.

The fire was out by about 3:15 p.m.
