A family dog died after an Arvada home caught fire early Thursday morning, according to Arvada Fire Protection District officials.

The flames also displaced two people who were inside the house at the time.

The fire was reported in the area of West 74th Avenue and Teller Street by several neighbors at around 9 a.m., said Arvada Fire Protection District spokeswoman Amber Jones.

Fire crews who arrived at the scene were able to quickly put out the blaze, but discovered a dog had died as a result of the fire.

Officials said it appears the fire may have started in the basement. The cause is still under investigation.
