Tubing ban lifted on the Saint Vrain River

Posted

LYONS, Colo. -- A tubing ban that was implemented last a week will be lifted first thing in the morning this Sunday, the Boulder County Sheriff's Office said Friday.

"The water flow rates in the Saint Vrain creeks, which converge into the Saint Vrain River, have sufficiently slowed to rates where the tubing ban can be rescinded," said Sheriff Joe Pelle.

The closure encompassed the North and South Saint Vrain Creeks and the Saint Vrain River from the western county line through the entire length of Boulder County.

Exempted from the ban were kayaks and white water canoes. Kayakers are still encouraged to exercise caution and wear safety equipment, including a life jacket, the sheriff's office said.

Last week, the Sain Vrain River was flowing at approximately 1,300 cubic feet per second (CFS); the volume at which Emergency Services can initiate a closure is at 1,200 CFS.

Violators faced a $50 fine.
