BERTHOUD, Colo. – A teenager who was found dead at Berthoud High School on Thursday shot himself in the head, a Larimer County Sheriff’s Office deputy said.
"We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss," said Dr. Stan Scheer, Thompson School District Superintendent, adding that this has been a difficult time for the teen’s family, friends and the entire Berthoud community.
“We are extremely grateful to the community for their continued support in this time of need. So many students, parents and community members have come together to grieve and to provide support to others. We appreciate all that they have done,” Scheer added.
The 15-year-old’s body was found at the high school after deputies got a report about the missing teen early Thursday morning.
The discovery of the teen’s body prompted school officials to cancel classes both Thursday and Friday.
Investigators said they are continuing to conduct interviews and collect historical data involving this case, “in hopes of possibly identifying a motive for this tragic event.”
District School officials said they will be opening the school on Sunday afternoon from 2 to 3 p.m., to have students and staff come together. Deputies will also be on-hand to provide support.
