WATCH: Deputy tries fighting wildfire near Limon

Days after a grass fire burned south of Limon, the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office has released a video showing one of their deputies trying to keep the blaze at bay.

The footage, which only lasts for a few seconds, shows Lincoln County Deputy Tyler Yowell approaching the violent flames with a shovel in hand in hopes of mitigating the fire.

"Before any Fire Department arrives, there is usually a Law Enforcement Officer there first, trying desperately to fight fire with tools intended for criminals. Sometimes a Cop and a shovel can really make a difference. That was not the case in Southern Lincoln County, Colorado on (02-18-16) Thursday night," states the department's Facebook post

Deputy Yowell soon realizes a shovel won't be enough to fight the wind-fueled flames, which are sweeping toward him at great speed. Yowell then disappears from the video and the flames can be seen moving toward his cruiser. At one point, the smoke covers the whole highway and the video then stops.

The deputy was not hurt, according to the Facebook post.

Multiple agencies battled the grass fire, which closed Highway 71 near mile post 73 for about an hour early Thursday evening.

An official with the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office said the high winds were the biggest factor in the fire. Denver7 was not immediately able to confirm the size of the fire.
