DENVER – The woman accused of stabbing two people on an RTD Light Rail train last week has been formally charged with two felony counts of assault.

Maressa Archuleta, 26, faces two counts of second-degree assault in the July 19 incident, which happened near 17th Ave. and California Street.

According to police, Archuleta threatened people aboard the train before a man tried to intervene to protect other people. Archuleta allegedly cut the man during an ensuing struggle.

A woman then kicked Archuleta to try and stopped her; she was stabbed as well.

At that point, other passengers on the train rushed Archuleta, held her down then got her off the train. She was arrested by police shortly afterward with a knife attached to her waistband, police said.

Archuleta is next due in court for her second advisement on Thursday.
