STAPLETON, Colo. -- A woman in Stapleton says her loud alarm system is the reason behind why three would-be burglars ran out of her home faster than when they came in.

“It is a loud alarm, it spooked them and saved us,” said homeowner Jennifer Knowles.

While at the Zoo with her kids, Knowles told Denver7 she received a terrifying call from her alarm company alerting her of a burglary in progress.

“It completely freaked me out. It was just the middle of the afternoon, we were just at the Zoo having fun and I would have never dreamed that this would happen,” she said.

Knowles said the three masked suspects broke into her home through her back patio and quickly ran up to the second floor and as soon as they did, the alarm activated.

“It makes me feel so unsafe and unsettled and violated. What if I was home, what if I was taking a nap with the kids, what if I had come face-to-face with them. What would have happened?" she asked.

The Stapleton area has seen six burglaries over the last two weeks according to Denver police. Despite having cameras in every corner of her home, Knowles told Denver7 she is taking extra precautions to make her home safer from within.

Anyone with information surrounding Wednesday’s break-in is urged to contact Denver Police at (720) 913-2000.
