DENVER – If you use the Venmo app to make money transactions, this warning is for you.
The Denver Police Department on Saturday warned users of the popular money-transfering and social networking app that to date, they have received at least 13 theft reports where the app “has come into play.”
“The mode of operation of the suspect(s) appears to go as follows: go to a bar or like establishment and find people who are Venmo users, steal that unsuspecting person’s smart phone and use the app to transfer money,” the police department said on Facebook.
Here are some tips they offered to prevent money being stolen from you when using the app:
- Keep your phone and other belongings close by.
- Do not make your use of the Venmo app public, protecting your image.
- Do not give your PIN out at any time to anyone.
- Your PIN should never be your date of birth, since such info is easily attainable through social sharing.
