ELIZABETH, Colo. — Formal charges have been filed against a 19-year-old who is accused of fatally stabbing a woman in her home on Halloween.
Christopher Sanders Leary was formally charged in Elbert County Tuesday with seven counts:
- First-degree murder after deliberation
- Assault with a deadly weapon
- Assault causing serious bodily injury
- Four sentence-enhancement charges, ranging from violent crime causing death to violent crime/weapon used
The charges allege that Leary stabbed a 56-year-old woman in her Elizabeth home around 8:45 p.m. on Halloween.
Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances that led to the woman’s death.
