Teen charged with attempted murder in connection to stabbing of female runner

EAGLE COUNTY, Colo. — Felony charges have been filed against an 18-year-old accused of stabbing a lone female runner May 31.

The woman was running on the Eagle Valley Trail behind the Westin Riverfront Resort in Avon shortly after 6 a.m. when Andrew Michael Young reportedly ran passed her on the jogging trail, according to the Avon Police Department. Police said the woman was alarmed, but continued running. Young is accused of then stabbing the woman multiple times in her head and torso.

Young was arrested at 9:53 a.m. that day.

The woman was taken to Vail Health hospital. She has since been discharged.

Young has been charged with attempted first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon. The charges were filed June 6.
