Teen, 16, faces attempted kidnapping charges after allegedly breaking into 4-year-old girl's room

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – A 16-year-old boy faces attempted kidnapping and trespassing charges, among others, after he allegedly broke into the room of a 4-year-old girl early Tuesday morning.

The Colorado Springs Police Department says officers were called out to an apartment in the 1500 block of Gatehouse Circle South around 1 a.m. Tuesday after someone called police to report a prowler.

Police say the teen, who has yet to be identified by police, broke into the young girl’s room through a window. But the girl’s mother got into the room before the teen could contact the girl, according to police.

The teen wasn’t caught at the scene, but police said they found evidence that led them to the teen.

Police obtained an arrest warrant for him and took him into custody Tuesday afternoon.

The teenager faces attempted second-degree kidnapping, first-degree criminal trespass and criminal mischief charges, but the police department says the investigation into the incident is ongoing.

The department asks anyone with more knowledge of the break-in to call at 719-444-7000.
