AURORA, Colo. — Authorities said a mother and her 4-year-old child were injured during a shootout between at least two suspects at an Aurora apartment complex early Saturday morning.

It happened around 4:45 a.m. on the east side of the complex at 14301 E. Tennessee Avenue. At least one person was taken into custody.

Police said a large disturbance involving several people occurred outside of the complex when witnesses reported several shots were fired from at least two shooters.

Stray bullets from the shooting apparently entered the victims' unit, causing the woman and child to sustain superficial wounds, police said. They have not said how the victims were injured. Bullets from shootout also struck vehicles and a building.

After the shooting, several people fled back into the apartment building. Police said at least one of the shooters fled to a unit inside the complex, where a SWAT operation eventually led to the arrest of a person. Police said a firearm was recovered during the operation.

Police have not said if the person was arrested on charges connected to the shooting. Police have not released a name or booking information at this time.
