ANTONITO, Colo. – Shots rang out between a Colorado State Patrol Trooper and a suspect wanted on a warrant in Southern Colorado late Saturday night, according to a state patrol spokesperson.

The shooting happened at around 10 p.m. in the area of E. 9th Ave. and Front St in Antonito, Colorado.

The trooper attempted to stop the vehicle of a 39-year-old man who had a felony warrant, but the man failed to do so and a chase ensued, according to CSP Corporal Ivan Alvarado.

The spokesman said “vehicle intervention occurred” and the suspect shot at the trooper a couple of times. The trooper then fired back one round. No one was hit or injured by the gunfire, Alvarado said.

He said both the suspect and a 28-year-old woman who was with him escaped on foot, but the woman was apprehended not long after. She sustained minor injuries and was taken to a hospital but has since been booked into the Conejo County Jail.

The identities of the trooper, the suspect and the woman were not immediately released.

The suspect remains at-large.

If you have any information that could lead to his arrest, call CSP Major George Dingfelder at (719) 589-7965.
