FORT COLLINS, Colo. – A sex assault suspect who tried to hit several patrol vehicles as he led Fort Collins police on a chase was arrested and is being held on several charges.

It all started when police got a call regarding a sex assault with a weapon at around 9:51 p.m. Wednesday in the area of South College Avenue and Pavilion Lane.

The suspect, Jessie Frias, 38, reportedly threatened a woman with a knife. She was able to escape with minor injuries, according a Fort Collins PD spokesperson.

Once officers arrived at the scene, they found a vehicle matching a description of the suspect’s truck, but when officers tried to make contact, Frias fled and led police, along with Larimer County Sheriff’s Office deputies and the Colorado State Patrol, on a chase.

The suspect tried to hit several patrol vehicles during the chase, according to a police spokesperson, before fleeing on foot after crashing his truck at the intersection of Harmony Road and Snow Mesa.

Officers apprehended him several minutes later in the nearby area of East Harmony Road and South Timberline Road. The suspect was not injured, nor were officers, the spokesperson said.

Frias was arrested on charges of second-degree kidnapping, sexual assault with a deadly weapon, second-degree assault with a deadly weapon and vehicular eluding.
