DENVER -- A bold porch pirate stole Thanksgiving groceries from a family while they were at home Saturday. They groceries were delivered in the morning, but by the time they went to bring the food inside it was gone.
An email confirmation showed the food was delivered, then Carrie Howard checked the video from their Ring doorbell. Sure enough, it showed someone walking up to their Stapleton home and stealing two full bags of groceries worth nearly $150.
"He was in the passenger seat, he got out, he walked up onto our porch, took the first bag of groceries. He came back and took the second bag of groceries, got in his car and drove away," said Howard.
She said they were shocked when they saw the video. The Howards are hosting Thanksgiving this year and the order included all the food for their meal.
“All the fixings for casseroles and cranberry sauce and mashed potatoes and pies," said Howard.
Howard has shared the video on social media, and other nearby neighbors say they spotted a similar-looking man stealing packages in the area. She hopes someone will recognize the man in the video before he hits other homes.
She said the theft has made her think twice about having packages delivered to the house, especially if someone could steal from them while they're home. As for Thanksgiving dinner, the family was able to get a new shipment of groceries just in time.
“Thanksgiving is going to be just fine, we got another package of groceries. We’re good to go," said Howard.
