WESTMINSTER, Colo. — Police say a drunk driver was responsible for a head-on crash that left one person in dead in Westminster on Friday.
Juan Ignacio Duran, 29, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, vehicular homicide/DUI resulting in death and vehicular homicide/reckless driving resulting in death.
Police said multiple officers were dispatched to the area of Church Ranch and Westminster Boulevard around 5 p.m. Friday after callers to 911 reported an erratic driver who nearly sideswiped a vehicle, drove over a curb and hit some bushes in the Promenade parking lot.
A responding officer spotted the driver going the wrong way at high speed in the southbound lanes of Westminster Boulevard approaching 112th Avenue before hitting another vehicle head-on.
The driver of the other vehicle was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital, where he or she was pronounced dead. Police have not released the driver’s name.
Duran also was taken to the hospital and then later booked into the Jefferson County Jail.
