COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Police say two of the three young children hospitalized Sunday after they were pulled from a pool are likely to be released Monday afternoon, but the third child remains in critical condition.

Colorado Springs officers were called to an apartment complex in the 3100 block of E. Fountain Blvd. Sunday afternoon just before 5:30 p.m. on a report that three children had drowned.

Police said Monday that firefighters and officers arrived to find that a 12-year-old had discovered the three young children in the pool and pulled them out.

The kids, aged 3, 4 and 5, were all unresponsive when they were pulled out of the pool. The boy who pulled them out was not at the pool when the children got in, police said.

Emergency crews performed CPR on the three kids before they were taken to an area hospital. The 3-year-old girl and 4-year-old boy are expected to be released Monday afternoon, police said, as they were stable as of Monday morning. The third child, a 5-year-old boy, remained in critical condition.

Police say they are still investigating how the kids got into the pool. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 719-444-7000 or Crime Stoppers at 719-634-7867.
