DENVER – Auraria Campus police are investigating what they are calling a hate crime that happened Monday at the Auraria Library.

Campus police say the suspect, of whom they have surveillance images, had been arguing with the victim over a chair at the Auraria Library around 11 a.m. Monday.

During the altercation, police say the suspect used a racial slur toward and spit on the victim. The suspect then left the library through the main entrance on the library’s north side, police said.

Police say the suspect is a white male between 40 and 50 years old who was wearing a gray t-shirt with black letters, tan shorts, a black baseball hat and a black backpack. Though officers have been reviewing surveillance video they haven’t been able to find the suspect.

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call police at 303-556-5000 or call anonymously at 303-556-2677. You can also text a tip to 720-593-8477.
