DENVER — Denver police are investigating a homicide outside LaMar’s Donuts and Coffee at 990 W. 6th Ave.

At 2:27 a.m. Monday, police responded to the donut shop near the intersection of W. 6th Avenue and Kalamath Street.

When they arrived at the scene, police found a man lying in the parking lot with blood on his chest. He was listed in extremely critical condition before he died at 3:50 a.m., said Tyrone Campbell with the Denver Police Department. This incident is now a homicide investigation, he said.

Police confirmed shots had been fired in that area, though it was unclear if the man had been hit by gunfire. Officers said they had spotted bullet holes in a car’s window in the parking lot.

By 2 p.m., Denver police identified the suspect as Brittany Lyons, 25, and said she was being held for investigation on a second-degree murder charge. Police confirmed that she and the victim knew one another but said the circumstances surrounding the shooting were still under investigation.

The victim in the shooting has not been named. Earlier Monday, police had said the victim’s wife was in custody and a small child that was with her was with authorities.
